The 4th annual Down with Derby fashion show and charity auction scheduled for March 19, 2020 has been postponed. We have made this decision out of an abundance of caution and care, and in partnership with leadership and our board of directors. Many members of the Down syndrome community suffer from weakened immune systems and the unknowns of this virus make it impossible to accurately assess the risk we may expose the individuals participating if the show did go on.
As you may expect, we will incur a significant loss in vital donations and many of the event-related expenses will not be recaptured due to the postponement. Down Syndrome of Louisville and the families we serve depend on events like Down with Derby to help fund the 47 programs and services we offer to our community. We will be reaching out to our generous partners and guests with more information about how to make a donation or for a refund of their ticket or partnership price.
We will continue to move forward with the Down with Derby online auction and are hopeful that through it and the generosity of our community we will not be impacted by the COVID-19 virus. In the end, we felt it important to cancel as the health and safety of our community is the first priority for Down Syndrome of Louisville.
